This house had a stairwell to a basement with no railing around it. That’s more than a six-foot drop onto a concrete slab!
The first task was to anchor some 4×4-post bases to the concrete. These sturdy metal frames, when attached using some Simpson Titen screw anchors, make the railing strong enough to stand alone. The 90º turn in the railing also helps.
Next, add the posts, horizontal braces, and balusters, section by section.
Finally, add the top pieces: a beautiful addition that makes the stairwell much safer!
